Topoisomerase paper accepted!

We are proud to announce that the work of Cyrielle, Erika and others on the differences of the human nuclear and mitochondrial Topoisomerase 1 enzymes is now accepted in Nucleic Acids Research! A big thanks to everyone involved: Cyrielle, Erika, Josefin, Aiswarya and Gosia. Also fun that all authors are from our own lab.

In this study, we find that the human mitochondrial topoisomerase 1 (hTop1mt) has a weaker endoribonuclease activity than its nuclear paralog. Consequently, hTop1mt activity is considerably less likely to contribute to the formation of ribonucleotide-dependent deletions that are a well-established threat to genome stability. These findings help explain why ribonucleotides are better tolerated in the mitochondrial than the nuclear genome.

Stay tuned for the open-access article!
